Introduction

St. Oliver’s Special school caters for children with severe to profound intellectual disabilities or moderate intellectual disabilities with additional complications.

We have 6 classes in our school.  An Early Intervention Autism class caters for children from 2 and a half to six with a diagnosis of Autism and five classes in the main body of the school catering for children from five to eighteen.

Ability West are the patrons of our school and our children over six are supported by the Ability West Multi-Disciplinary Team comprising of a Speech and Language Therapist, Physiotherapist,  Occupational Therapist, Psychologist and a Behaviour support specialist.

The teachers and special needs assistants use a wide range of approaches to assist the children in accessing a full educational curriculum and meet their IEP Goals. These approaches include PECS, TEACCH, Lámh sign language and Numicon.

There is also door-to-door transport provided to the school by Bus Eireann. Children are supported by Bus Escorts on the bus.
